The School of Business at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor In-Residence, with primary responsibilities in teaching, service, and outreach at the University’s Storrs campus in the area of business writing and communication to begin in Fall 2020.
The successful candidate will be expected to share a deep commitment to effective instruction primarily at the undergraduate level, to the development of innovative courses, and to the mentoring of students in their professional development. Duties include a university-standard in-residence teaching load of 21 credits per year (Fall and Spring semesters) of undergraduate teaching in Business Writing and Communication across a variety of formats (one-, two- and three-credit courses). In addition, individuals will be expected to contribute to scholarship and outreach targeted at the professional community so as to maintain faculty qualifications under AACSB guidelines. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; demonstrate through their activities the richness of diversity in the learning experience; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods; contribute to the development of pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

- For the rank of Instructor In-Residence: candidates must possess a master’s degree in business communication, technical communication, professional communication, English, rhetoric and/or composition, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution by August 22, 2020. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
- For the rank of Assistant Professor In-Residence: candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in business communication, technical communication, professional communication, English, rhetoric and/or composition, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution by August 22, 2020. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching writing and/or communication for business students, with at least two-years’ experience.
- A deep commitment to promoting diversity through their academic programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Industry experience in professional writing and/or communication to enhance teaching.
- If advanced degree is in English, Composition and Rhetoric specialization preferred.
- English as a Second Language (ESL) experience preferred.
- Experience in communication-across-the-curriculum initiatives (e.g., faculty outreach, course design).
This is a full-time, nine-month, end-date non-tenure track position with the possibility of annual reappointment, contingent upon positive annual reviews and program funding, and may lead to a multi-year appointment. The anticipated start date is August 23, 2020. The successful candidate’s primary academic appointment will be at the University’s Storrs campus with the possibility of assignment at other regional campuses. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
