The Institute for Systems Genomics (ISG) at the University of Connecticut (UConn) invites applications for an open rank (Assistant, Associate or Full Professor) tenure-track faculty position in genomics starting August 23, 2020 (Search #494203).
We invite applications from researchers who will bring to UConn a transformative, innovative, cross-disciplinary, and high-impact research program in genomics that will yield fundamental new knowledge and result in cross-cutting applications and discoveries. The successful candidate is expected to complement existing strengths across the departments participating in this search: Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Marine Sciences, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Physiology and Neurobiology.
About the Institute for Systems Genomics
The Institute for Systems Genomics (ISG, https://isg.uconn.edu/), established in 2012, draws upon the research strength of 10 schools and colleges at UConn and the nearby Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine (https://jax.org/about-us/locations/farmington). Leveraging investments from the state, supported by the $1.7 billion Next Generation Connecticut (http://nextgenct.uconn.edu), the $172 million Tech Park program (http://innovation.uconn.edu/tech-park), the $865 million Bioscience CT initiative and the $200 million Bioscience Innovation Fund, UConn has made significant investments in the ISG in support of its cores (Computational Biology Core, iPSC and Chromosome Core), centers (Center for Genome Innovation, Single Cell Sequencing Center), and educational programming at the graduate level (certificates, Professional Science Masters and PhD programs). The ISG currently has 148 members and a collective grant portfolio of over $235 million.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will:
- Develop, sustain and grow an externally funded research program of excellence through collaboration and engagement with the Institute for Systems Genomics research community.
- Share a deep commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Broaden participation among under-represented groups and contribute to an inclusive culture on campus and in the laboratory.
- Teach innovative courses in genomics that meet the curricular needs of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Institute for Systems Genomics.
- Advise and mentor students in research, outreach, and professional development.
- Provide leadership and offer service to UConn, other academic and scientific communities, and the general public.
- Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in a relevant subject and postdoctoral experience.
- Outstanding track record of research publications in their field.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; experience with oral presentations at scientific meetings.
- Background that provides preparation for teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Commitment to promoting diversity through academic and research programs.
- Research program incorporating innovative and interdisciplinary approaches that complement the existing strengths of the ISG and CLAS departments.
- Demonstrated ability to carry out high-impact, high-quality research.
- Experience in writing research grant proposals with a record of success with funding from diverse national agencies.
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
- Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity through academic and research programs.
- Experience and documented success in conducting and leading collaborative research.
- Demonstrated potential to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience and academic community through research, teaching, and service.
Additional Preferred Qualifications for the Associate Professor Level
- Established and successful high-impact, innovative, interdisciplinary research program.
- Demonstrated success in obtaining extramural support to maintain and grow a dynamic research program.
- Documented commitment to excellence in education and training for undergraduate and graduate students.
- Outstanding record of publications in the peer-reviewed scientific literature.
Additional Preferred Qualifications for the Full Professor Level
- Demonstrated success in establishing and sustaining extramurally-funded research program(s).
- Demonstrated leadership experience and innovation in interdisciplinary research.
- Sustained and consistent high-impact publication record over time since Ph.D.
- Demonstrated success in undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral mentoring.
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2020. The successful candidate’s academic appointment and laboratory space will be at the Storrs campus. Salary and rank are highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience; a generous start-up package is available.
