The Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy (InCHIP; https://chip.uconn.edu/) at the University of Connecticut invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Associate or Full Professor rank for Fall 2021. InCHIP is a university-wide, interdisciplinary institute that facilitates research partnerships and scientific advances in human health and well-being at several levels (e.g., individual, family, school, workplace, neighborhood, community, policy). Topics of study include physical and mental health, social drivers of health, and work across the translational science spectrum. InCHIP has faculty affiliates across many UConn colleges and campuses and houses three established centers: the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity (http://www.uconnruddcenter.org/), the UConn Center for mHealth and Social Media (https://mhealth.inchip.uconn.edu/), and the Collaboratory on School and Child Health (https://csch.uconn.edu/).
The successful candidate will have an established program of research relevant to InCHIP’s mission. Current InCHIP areas of study include but are not limited to food policy, obesity, mHealth and social media, school and child health, stigma, cancer prevention, HIV/AIDS, medication adherence, health disparities, substance use, aging, global health, and mind-body health. We invite candidates whose research strengthens or complements these areas. The interdisciplinary nature of InCHIP is supported by having affiliated faculty members from different academic departments, and we invite candidates from a broad range of academic disciplines and research areas to apply. This position will be housed in the academic department that best fits the individual’s research and teaching expertise.
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to research and scholarship of InCHIP through extramural funding, high quality publications, impact as measured through citations, and national recognition as through honorific awards. In the area of training, the successful candidate will share a commitment to effective instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentoring of students and postdoctoral fellows in research, outreach, and professional development. Successful candidates will also be expected to broaden participation among members of under-represented groups; and integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research.
Earned Ph.D. in behavioral or social sciences, STEM fields, the arts and humanities, social work, business, law, or any field related to health; a demonstrated record of external research funding; teaching experience as instructor of record for one or more undergraduate or graduate courses; a demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals and presentations at major conferences on topics related to the mission of InCHIP; a commitment to undergraduate and graduate teaching; and a commitment to promoting diversity through academic and research programs. Equivalent foreign degrees are acceptable.
Assistant professor (or higher rank) appointment at current institution; respect for multidisciplinary collaboration; documentation of teaching excellence; outstanding oral and written communication skills.
This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track position with an anticipated start date of August 23, 2020. The successful candidate's appointment will reside at the Institute for Collaboration on Health, Intervention, and Policy, with teaching responsibilities and faculty involvement at the home academic department in Storrs or Hartford. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
